An exclusive club of athletes who have completed a marathon on all 7 Continents and at the North Pole
The Marathon Grand Slam Club™ recognizes athletes who have completed a marathon distance or longer on all 7 continents and at the North Pole. The Club has been operated by Polar Running Adventures for 20+ years. To be eligible for membership, you must complete a recognized marathon or ultramarathon on each of the continents - and at the North Pole - and be able to authenticate your claim for membership. New members can receive a Marathon Grand Slam Club medal and certificate.
The Marathon Grand Slam Club membership spans 6 continents and 40+ countries. All members of the Club have travelled to the North Pole to complete a 42.2 km marathon at a floating ice camp in extreme sub-zero temperatures. They include a diverse range of people: Olympic standard athletes, explorers, people with disabilities, recreational athletes, young and old. Polar Running Adventures continues to create new opportunities for membership via the North Pole Arctic Polar Race in April 2025.
Who are the current members of The Marathon Grand Slam Club?
Please contact us at polarrunningadventures@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The Marathon Grand Slam Club was established by Richard Donovan in 2002 when he became the first person to complete a marathon distance on all 7 continents and at the North Pole.
The Club has been operated by Richard Donovan / Polar Running Adventures for 20+ years. Every member of the Club has travelled to the North Pole with Richard Donovan / Polar Running Adventures.
Anyone who has completed a marathon on all 7 continents, and at the North Pole ice camp with Polar Running Adventures, is welcome to apply for membership. Contact polarrunningadventures@gmail.com.
You should complete a marathon between 89N and 90N latitude that is recognized or operated by Polar Running Adventures. Our marathon courses are typically 10 loops that include the landing runway and ungroomed sections of ice on the Arctic Ocean. The Arctic Polar Race is our current North Pole event.
The Club was created by Polar Running Adventures to acknowledge the completion of a significant marathon challenge at the North Pole (in addition to all 7 continents). ’Summer’ marathons, events without GPS verification of distance, and races conducted on ships are not representative of a North Pole challenge that is required for membership. Please make sure to consult with Polar Running Adventures at polarrunningadventures@gmail.com before planning to undertake an event.
